I went to GTR range last Sunday. They asked if I had eyes/ears, etc. Of course. They directed me to #1 in the range visible through the window.
I proceeded to the first door, opened it. This is just a hallway before you open another door to enter the actual range. I opened the next door. WOW! it was loud! Doh! I had forgotten to put my ears on! Time to slow the heck down and think!
Thereafter, I took my time in all that I did on the range. Something as little as forgetting hearing protection, made me think I was moving too fast.
Some dude was shooting off is pump shotgun a couple spots away. Damn! Glad I had hearing protection!

I once caught some brass right where my goggles and ear muffs meet. I pulled the muffs up to let the brass fall right as someone shot.

I wear eye protection always, ear protection, 98% of the time. I do shoot without it at times to simulate real life shooting situations so as to remember how LOUD it really is. I recommend that during every range session you acclimate yourself to the real world for a couple rounds.

Anymore as soon as I get out of the rig to over over to the range (outdoor is where I mainly shoot) the muffs go on.

I did that once at Illinois gun works, and it was super loud. Didn't forget the next time around.

I hunted all the time in Canada, and I never wore muffs. Would sight in and target shoot all the time outside without muffs.

I was wearing a light jacket, and a piece went into my jacket. Couldn't get it out quick enough. Lol

Tight fitting cloths/collars.
223 brass can give you 2nd degree burns.
