That looks pretty sweet.. How often have you give dutz?

RE: IDPA - Dutz - 06-08-2015

Once a month. Usually it's on the last Wed. The only bad thing about McHenry is it is indoors at OnTarget so they are limited to how many. You have to register via Eventbrite. Registration opens Sun night before the match at 8 PM and fills up very fast.

The good part is it is pretty casual from a competitive standpoint. There are only a few really fast people. They are helpful and give advise.

The Badger one in Racine has an outdoor season and there are no limits from what I understand. I have never been there.

In general IDPA is good as it uses all stock equipment, and you can use your standard carry setup if you want. It also really reveals flaws in your draw, reload, and how you carry the gun, i.e. finger on trigger, pointing down range all while under pressure and moving.

I concentrate on accuracy first right now and am not that concerned about speed yet.

RE: IDPA - Ringo3632 - 06-08-2015

How many round do you usually go through? I'm trying to figure a cost to try something along these lines

RE: IDPA - Dutz - 06-08-2015

Around 100.

There is usually about 6 stages. According the rules each can have a maximum requirement of 18 hits. Some stages permit you to shoot as many as you want and your score is based on how many you get in the required zones. Some stages permit only an exact shot count, i.e. you need 2 to the chest, one to the head and can only fire 3 times.

So if you only shoot exactly what you need and each stage is maxed you would shoot 108, if there are 6 stages.

RE: IDPA - British Gunner - 06-08-2015

Went in May to try it out at McHenry. Things seemed a little intense as the SO was trying to get everyone through the stages in a reasonable time. You are kind of thrown in at the deep end, and I did manage to thoroughly embarrass myself, but all in all I am planning on going back again. Would love to meet some Red Dot shooters there.

RE: IDPA - Dutz - 06-08-2015

In May Ken was in group 1 and my wife, Sharz on the board, and I were in group 2, that's 3 of us.

RE: IDPA - Ringo3632 - 06-08-2015

hmm I think I'm going to give this a good look. If nothing else I want to come and watch a match. How much do they charge for an entry fee? I was looking around a little on the site and it just gave the yearly membership fees and said it was a reduced cost per match if you were a member. I feel like it would be a good compliment to the training from RDA I've had so far.

RE: IDPA - Dutz - 06-09-2015

I think you can go and watch without paying. There is a 1/2 hour intro before each match for new people, then you can go and watch. Sharz did that the first one, and I don't think we paid for her.
