Helmets - jfergus7 - 10-25-2014 Alright I know this isn't the right section to be posting this but I don't see a better section for it. Does anyone own a helmet? Been planning on ordering a vest with plates and thinking a helmet would be a great addition to it. I would love to get a Team Wendy helmet but for the price I am not sure that I can swing one for quite some time. Anyone have any other similar helmets that they really like? RE: Helmets - BelieveIn308 - 10-25-2014 Awhile ago a website had old Class IIIA German Army surplus helmets for about $70. I bought one. Seems very well made. And was in nearly new condition. Seems very light. Alas, I searched my email and cannot find where I bought it, but it was online. RE: Helmets - jfergus7 - 11-11-2014 I have never seen those before but they do look pretty cool! Gonna have to do some more research on them! RE: Helmets - BelieveIn308 - 11-11-2014 Thanks for the site info Ryan, the TNVC has a lot of thermal image scopes and a wealth of information on them as well. RE: Helmets - RJDSRT - 11-11-2014 Nooooo prahblum. RE: Helmets - BelieveIn308 - 07-23-2015 A couple of buddies of mine recently tested a helmet, level IIIa against a variety of hand gun rounds. It stopped a .357 mag, .45ACP, .40SW, 9mm and 22LR. Interestingly enough a 10mm round did penetrate. We only tested 9mm, .40SW and .45ACP with hollow points, it stopped them all. We did this at exactly 12 yards. The .357 mag did dent it badly but didn't penetrate. 9mm from a carbine did, however. .223, .308x51, 7.62x39 rifle rounds easily did. If we had a second helmet, I'd like to test the rifle rounds at 200 yards, but I am thinking the results would be the same. RE: Helmets - mikereddot - 08-04-2015 Very cool. Any video? RE: Helmets - AcilletaM - 08-04-2015 Did it stop the handgun ammo or did it deflect? Might explain why the 10mm penetrated. 9mm out of a pistol isn't dramatically different than out of carbine, fps-wise at least. I would think the results would be similar to the .357 mag hit. RE: Helmets - Ringo3632 - 08-04-2015 both good questions.. I really hope there is video! that would be interesting to watch! RE: Helmets - BelieveIn308 - 08-05-2015 Alas, never though to do a video on it... I was surprised that the 10mm penetrated, but not the .357. I also was surprised by the carbine result. Now it is possible that the helmet was 'weakened' by previous hits. I am so curious is it offers any protection v. rifle fire at 200+ yds. The helmet we tested as quite a few holes and dents in it. There were some deflections, even though we tried hard to hit it square on. I'd have to say the helmet offers protection against pistol rounds. We only had the one helmet. We fired about 30-40 rounds at it. If we do this again, I will try to make a video, or at least splice together some phone videos. The .357 clearly dented it. The .40SW as well. 2 of 3 10mm rounds penetrated. None of the hollow points did (9mm, .40SW or .45ACP which is all we tested). RE: Helmets - mikereddot - 08-05-2015 The real question, does the helmet protect against UV rays caused by global warming, climate change or whatever BS they're calling it now.
RE: Helmets - BelieveIn308 - 08-05-2015 I rather it stop a 5.56x45 or 7.62x39 at 300 yds.. I can stay out of the sun to avoid the UV rays. And my solution to global warming is to go north... Helmets - jfergus7 - 09-02-2015 Anyone own a Team Wendy helmet? Time to invest in one just not sure which yet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
