Bullet proof vest? - Rodney - 06-22-2014

Anyone know of a local place (Lake County IL) to try bullet proof vest on and purchase?

We have access to buy some at Red Dot. We've always wanted to carry them. Talk to Steve.

Great website. Very reasonable prices. Most other places want more for their plates. And they are about 1 lb. lighter. I've seen some ceramic plates, that are lighter, but during the test the 2nd and 3rd hit went right through. (5.56x45, M855, 62 gr). So I am thinking steel are best at least for the front plate.

I'd be curious what plate carriers people are using. I've tried the Condor ones, and the web backing really makes a huge comfort difference.

Great Video on youtube testing these plates. They were proof against everything but old Dutch Nato .308 AP rounds (which will penetrate more than the 30-06 rounds). Since you are not likely to ever see those, they are a great plate at a really good price.

Think I am going to get one ordered from that Ar5000armor website. Thanks for that link. That is a site that I haven't seen before.

RE: Bullet proof vest? - RJDSRT - 10-11-2014

No problem! They're great plates. I got the curved for the front and the flat for the back.

RE: Bullet proof vest? - jfergus7 - 10-12-2014

I was thinking of doing the same with my plates.

RE: Bullet proof vest? - fromtheplaines - 10-13-2014

I had a buddy who worked for an armor truck company when he quit he had 2 of them he sold me one. It's not the nicest but hopefully it would work if the time ever came

RE: Bullet proof vest? - BelieveIn308 - 10-14-2014

I had a set of Infidel Armor curved plates (front and back, and 2 side panels). I ordered 2 of their flat plates from AR500 also, for the back too, as they are more comfortable. So now I have 2 sets of body armor. I did like the Infidel plates when they were cheaper, as they will stop .338 Lapua rounds too. I think if I had known of the AR500 website, I probably would have purchased their plates, exclusively.

When I first started looking I was finding them all to be much more expensive till I found that site. Hoping to get one ordered in the next month or two. If anyone gets one locally I would love to check it out before placing an order just to see the quality of them.
