While I do like my 40's and my 9's I don't think stores are going to have a fire sale on 40 cal handguns.

I've seen that trend too... For some reason the .40 Short & Weak has fallen out of favor. It seems to make bigger holes than 9mm, have about the same penetration, but maybe locally it is out of favor. Besides, I have heard that gun stores can have .40 S&W models almost overnight. In smaller guns, .40 can be a snappy round, but I see nothing wrong with it in full size guns.
