I've been waiting to read an article like that! Probably going to send it off to some friends too.

Claiming the homicide rate dropped in Q1 because of concealed carry is wrong. How could that be a real factor before the first permits were sent out? Its also not better police work. It was the separate effects of the super cold winter and bad shooting. I don't remember which station did the report but they found that people were still getting shot at roughly the same rate but not dying and this was lowering the homicide rate. Politicians are too quick to take credit for stuff. Concealed carry will reduce crime but let's focus on what happened after April.

I tend to agree. Most shootings in Illinois are in Chicago. And those are concentrated on the South and West sides. I then to credit bad weather, and better police work. Since there are few CCW permits in those Chicago neighborhoods, it would be hard to draw that conclusion. However, I am sure crime is down everywhere else.

My thoughts is how are the crime rates determined from year to year. Give any statistician the numbers they could be "adjusted" to be favorable especially during an election year.

Any stats can be manipulated, unless they are from the same organization using the same criteria, and even then.
If you looked at hangun shooting over the last 50 years. Now with modern medicine, a lot less people die from gun shot wounds then back then.

All stats can be manipulated, that is why you need to ask yourself if they make sense.
As they sa, 56% of all stats are made up.
