I think you would be better served with a simple Glock 17 and a 30 round mag... And while a carbine is easier to handle in closed space, a pistol is easier than a carbine.

Ok, I can understand that for people with injured shoulders that makes some sense, but I would think that market is TINY.

AS my shoulder is fine, and I firmly believe a pistol is better choice for home defense (or an AR15 for that matter), I will still have zero interest in the pistol caliber carbine.

Sorry, I see no use for pistol caliber carbines... I am still waiting for the reason they even exist. Cool has nothing to do with it. It is a firearm without a purpose. Not that some of those are not cool, but I won't be buying one.

People like to have guns that use a single source of ammo. My grandfather has a marlin in 9mm it's fun to shoot. And for a lot of people that is good enough

You can get carbines that use the same mags as the G17 but with semi auto ammo that's about it. 100 fps more out of the longer barrel, not a lot.

It's about ammo and equipment interchangeability mostly.

Short answer, they exist because people want them.

With revolver cartridges you can load to take advantage of the longer barrel. Made sense years ago when more people carried revolvers and didn't want to carry different ammo or ammo was in short supply. May not make sense anymore.

i would have to say hi-point for handguns, in my experience with them that i get double feeds, rounds dont eject right and as crazy as this sounds i cant get an accurate shot from farther the 10 meters. i guess 150 for a 45 says it all but for the price i wanted to try it......
how ever my friend from work has the 45 carbine and i will say the thing was accurate at 200 feet never had any issues with feeds. as ugly as it is i would say it is a pretty good carbine.

oh and the zip gun....will never touch one of those

Actually, we are thinking to buy some for training. Less recoil, and less wear and tear on an inside range. Same concept as training with a 22LR pistol.

I haven't heard of this Zip gun.. Just googled it a little bit and it looks goofy! Any particular reason for picking that one over another 22LR?

oh i was interested in getting it for my son but on the first 3 or 4 videos on youtube i cant remember, not one time did it cycle a complete mag. i mean for the price it would be a great way to train him in firearm maintenance but i can see how they can be helpful for training, they actually look like training aids.

another issue i see with it is the "button" to chamber the round is so close to the barrel, when watching videos it always looks like they but their hand over the barrel when the press it and i always wonder how safe is that, like what if it gos off?

Yeah I didn't like that part of the design myself. If it works then no worries, but it still would tweak me out a little bit just putting my hand in front of the gun.

i saw some guy pressing it against a table so he wouldnt have to put his hand in front, but is mis feeds so often that you kinda have to use the charging system alot and that would give me the jitters

That's just one type of disabilities that restrict the type of firearm someone may be able to use. You also have wrist injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, bone diseases, muscle disorders, arthritis, etc. The market for people with disabilities is actually fairly large. My wife is another example. It's hard picking a handgun for her because she has carpal tunnel. She has trouble even with some 9x19mm guns.

As for your point about using a Glock with a 30 round mag, not everyone likes Glocks. I personally don't. There's also the consideration that you can fit more accessories on a carbine/SBR. With a pistol you might be able to fit a combination flashlight/laser, which tend to be expensive, but with the other you can put one of each separately. You can also more easily mount an optic like a RDS or holographic sight. My personal weapon I grab in case of a home invasion is my HK USP 40 but I also see the benefit to a pistol caliber carbine/SBR. If there was a viably priced on based on teh AK format, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

That's one of the reasons I hate Obama. His stupid unconstitutional ban prevents the Saiga 9 from being imported. The only pistol caliber AK in the country right now is the Definitive Arms AKX-9 and that thing costs over $1500 for the base model. Like I said elsewhere, his ban is just a gun control effort. If he really wanted to hurt Russia, as he claims, he'd have banned the import of Russian vodka. More money is spent every single year on that than on Russian made weapons.

Still not won over. I assure you I am no fan of Glocks, unless they were suddenly $150 less. However, for home defense, I cannot see more than a flashlight/laser on any weapon. I don't think I will fix bayonets indoors. And if I have a laser, there really is no reason for more optics. I know the 9mm is lethal out past 200 yds.

Don't get me wrong, I oppose all these stupid bans, and if you think the weapon useful, by all means buy one. I'll Pass...

I don't see the need for one, in my opinion it is still a gun without a purpose. And I do like some Russian made weapons. I fired a VEPR in 7.62x54R a couple weeks ago, and thought it was a hell of a rifle. Sort of like a Russian AK for the big cartridge.
