My first was a Ruger Mk II 22LR and the Colt 1911 45APC. They were completely different guns. The Ruger, was a great plinker. The Colt, surprisingly had mild recoil, and was easy to clean. Not the most accurate gun, as it was Korean War Army vintage, and had seen a lot of rounds.
You can carry a service size, in a jacket holster.

I'm grateful to Red Dot for giving me the advice in the first post, back when I was first considering what to make my first firearm. They steered me right.

Too many people find out the hard way and end up wasting money on a gun they are not going to shoot The big box stores don't care to take the time to go through the best options for the individual, and often have very little knowledge of the product they are selling. I'm glad it worked out that you came to us!!

First real gun I was to shoot was a savage 12 Ga. At the age of 12, my grandfather told me, "if you can shoot this and you don't fall down, it's yours". There was no way I was going to fall. I wish getting a new gun was always that easy.

Mike, what a great story! Do you still have the 12 gauge? And knowing what you know now about guns what three guns do you truly want to acquire and why? When I look over what I have, I am thinking I want a Mosin Nagant and maybe a Thompson... At this point I think new guns are more of a whim.

My first was a Ruger New Model Blackhawk .357 and probably will never drop from my rotation.

My first is my Springfield XDs that I bought about 2 years ago. Probably not the best beginner gun but I was determined! And it's much much easier now that I've taken some classes and know how to handle it.

I love my Springfields... I have an XD (.40S&W) and XDm (5.25", .45ACP). They are both really reliable excellent shooters. I probably need to show them some love and take them to the range tomorrow.

I started learning on a Winchester Model 12 20 gauge. about 45 yrs past and I'm still trying to buy it from my brother.
First handgun was S&W .38 that my dad bought in the mid 50's and I still have it.

I leared with a Ruger SR22. It wasn't to bad. Once I got the hang of it, in about 5 shots, I consistently hitting head and chest in tight groups.

Got my first shooting experience at the Red Dot basic pistol course where I got to shoot a range of revolvers and semi-automatics. The guys in the store were great and really took time to go over options for my first purchase. Ended up with an FNH FNS 9 as my first purchase.

That's a really nice gun. I've added that to our class rentals and shot it a few weeks ago.
